After the meeting with the dean a month ago or so ago, there was discussion about appointing a few representatives from our class to voice our needs and concerns to the dean and other people in the administration in the future. A few of us have discussed this, but we never ended up actually appointing anyone or going much further than talking.
I talked to Brian today, and he felt strongly that we pursue this proactive approach. He suggested that we use this blog as a place for discussions about what we want changed and improved with the program. He also proposed that we collectively select two representatives for our class, one living in Philly and one outside of the area.
Please leave some feedback about this. Leave a post if you are interested in volunteering as a representative. If multiple people are interested, we can have a vote, or just have more than two representatives. Also, I would like to say that it seems obvious to me that Brian is an ideal candidate to represent our class because he is effectively vocal and is obviously strongly interested in this idea.
Along with brian, I think eric w. or aaron would be good representatives for their likability and ability to articulate what they're (we're) thinking. I'm also close by and would be happy to sit in to play devils advocate if needed.
ReplyDeleteI think that two pairs would be a better situation (2 local and 2 remote). Just so that if someone is sick or out of town, etc. we can still keep the ball rolling.
ReplyDeleteGia, Colleen, and Michelle come to mind as good choices for a remote representative.
Also, I'd be happy to help our class however I can.
I think any member of our group would be able to act as a representative. As I call a mental roster of our class, we each have a particular strength for the role (whether likeability, persuasiveness, time, proximity, or the ability to listen attentively). The more pertinent question is who among us feels strongly enough about these snags or issues that the statement "somebody needs to do something" becomes "I need to do something."
ReplyDeleteI notice in group tasks there are usually a few people whose internal deadlines cause them to act first. Unless they are also good at delegating or persuading others, they end up doing all the work. Brian seems to identify problems particularly quickly. Does anyone else feel particularly antsy to get things solved?
Hey Everyone!
ReplyDeleteI miss you all! It was a great summer!
Thanks to Aaron, I am finally able to sign into this blog!
